Daffodils being planted on the Woodland bank

Daffodils being planted on the Woodland bank

A big team today, about ten with Steps to Work and volunteers planting daffodils in the Woodland bank on the north side of the lake (these were donated to Mount Stewart hence the late planting). About 4,000 have now been planted in this area, a mixture of Carlton, Scarlett O’Hara and Woodland Mix. Squares of turf were dug and flapped over, bulbs planted and the sods turned back over them. I don’t like to confess to this but the men did the sod digging and the women did the planting  (I can’t believe I am admitting this). So, thanks to all the men. Maybe I should just say it was a team effort.

We had a new volunteer today. Nella, who spoke to us at the Volunteer Recruitment day on Saturday turned up for work this morning. It was an awful day for anyone to start volunteering as it rained most of the day but she didn’t mind kneeling in the wet grass, getting soaked and muddy. As she smiled through it all we hope she will be back for more. Welcome, Nella.
