Clearing out the polytunnel at the Nursery

Clearing out the polytunnel at the Nursery

End of summer clear-out and tidy-up in the polytunnel. Pots were cleared of moss, dead leaves trimmed off, some were clipped back and two inches of compost removed from all the pots and replaced with new. Some plants were brought to the potting shed where cuttings will be taken and overwintered in the greenhouse. Everything was put outside and the floors swept and disinfected. Plants then returned to spotless space. Ten of us worked on this all day and didn’t quite get it finished. Very satisfying work, one of our favourite jobs.

This was volunteer Pat Burns’ last day in Mount Stewart. Pat joined the volunteer team on Wednesday 10 Oct 2007 and has been a very loyal, hard working and humorous member of the team. We will all miss her, she has promised to come and see us on the odd Wednesday for lunch. Enjoy retirement, Pat, and think of us on a freezing January Wednesday morning when you can just have a lie-in.
