Once or twice a year Mount Stewart has a working holiday group gardening for a week. The holidays are run by the National Trust and to show how wonderful these weeks are people actually pay to come and garden. This week it is a group from England, Ros, Helen, Amanda, Laura and Fred, the driver of the mini bus, and they all say they are loving the experience. They are staying at Castle Ward in the Bunk House, the old gamekeeper’s cottage and come across on the ferry every day. Their tasks, so far, have been in all areas of the gardens, cutting down ponticum, working in the nursery and thinning out the erigeron on the steps at the house. Not sure what work has been planned for Thursday and Friday but it will be interesting and informative.
