Protecting the stonework in the Italian Garden

Wednesday 18 January 2012

After the last two very severe winters it was decided that some protection should be given for the freeze-thaw action on the stonework in all areas of Mount Stewart. The Gardens look very strange with everything draped in blue breathable plastic. Naturally, after all that hard work we have had the mildest winter for years.

At the end of every winter a survey is done to decide what repairs and cleaning need to be done on the stonework. I think the volunteers may be helping with the cleaning this year, a job we haven’t done before. It will be just like home.
