I am always writing about the oxalis that is the scourge of Mount Stewart. This is what it looks like, just look at that bulb, a dozen babies on each one. It has to be dug out intact or it just spreads even more. Usually, no matter how careful we are, the leaves come up on their own and we have to dig deeper until the bulb is found. When weeding, these bulbs have to be put in a separate bucket and burned.
Today’s job was to remove as many as we could from the Italian Garden parterres. Very satisfying but we just know that there will be another crop next week. Hopefully they will be for the Thursday volunteers.
